I remember when I first began shooting videos on my phone I’d spend hours staring at search results of identical looking filmmaking kit. I’m a geek about this stuff, but even I found my eyes glazing over. I’d scroll through pages of tripods, or microphones, or mobile mounts all of which looked identical. I had no idea what would help or work.
Over the years, I’ve bought a LOT of mobile video kit. Some of it was awful, some of it was ok, some of it has been incredible. But after a lot of trial and error I’ve figured out what works for me.

Does kit really matter?
Well, yes. And no. I generally believe kit shouldn’t stop you filming. There are loads of free or cheap hacks you can use to get around not having the right gear.
But the right kit can make the process easier and make your videos look more professional.
